Police investigators found traces of cyanide, a deadly poison, in an iced coffee drank by a woman who died after experiencing seizures.
Jakarta Police Criminal Investigation Department chief Sr. Comr. Krishna Murti said on Sunday that investigators suspected that Wayan Mirna Salimin, 27,died from cyanide poisoning. It was based on the fact that Mirna experienced seizures and foaming at the mouth.
He said cyanide compounds were found in six samples of the iced coffee collected for testing by the police.
Mirna died on Wednesday after drinking an iced coffee at a restaurant in Grand Indonesia, Central Jakarta. Krishna Murti said a friend ordered the drink for Mirna.
Mirna was with two of friends, S and N, at the time. S reportedly ordered and paid for all the drinks.
The police subsequently summoned the friends and restaurant employees for questioning as witnesses in the case.
However, S refused to comply, Krishna Murti said.
"We will send another summons on Monday. We asked her to come on Sunday night but she refused. We can't force her because her status is still a witness," he said as quoted by kompas.com on Sunday.
The restaurant owner spilled the iced coffee on his hands and felt a numbing sensation, Krishna Murti said.
Mirna's father, Dermawan Salihin, said on Sunday that he had approved an autopsy on his daughter's body after initially rejecting the proposal. He said he had approved it so that the police could thoroughly investigate the case.
"Someone did a bad thing to my daughter. I think it is a crime and the police said they needed to conduct an autopsy," he said as quoted by kompas.com. (rin)(+)
