wenty-four students from South Korea's Silla University are visiting Panggang Island, Thousand Islands' Regency, to participate in a cultural exchange and social activities.
'They will share their knowledge, introducing their culture to schools in Panggang Island for a week,' Thousand Island's secretary Ismer Harahap said on Saturday as quoted by beritajakarta.com.
According to Ismer, this is the second time the regency has welcomed a group of university students from South Korea, with the initial visit having taken place in 2011. 'Hopefully the visit will have a positive impact on Thousand Island's tourism,' he said.
Previously, Thousand Islands Regent Budi Utomo revealed his plan to build six helicopter landing pads as part of efforts to improve tourism and also public services for the islands' residents.
The helipads are to be developed on soccer fields and will be used for tourism purposes and also by ill residents requiring prompt transportation to Jakarta.
