ndia, the second-most populous country in the world, appointed Nengcha Lhouvum Mukhopadhayay, one of its top diplomats, its new ambassador to Indonesia, the Indian Embassy announced in Jakarta on Wednesday.

'€œOur new ambassador will arrive in Jakarta on Thursday. Ambassador-designate Ms. Nengcha Lhouvum will soon submit her letter of credentials to President Joko Widodo,'€ Indian Embassy'€™s Charge d'€™ Affaires Manish told The Jakarta Post on Wednesday.

Lhouvum, who joined the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) in 1980, is an award-winning diplomat. She was the first IFS officer to receive the Prime Minister'€™s Award for Administrative Excellence for the year 2007-08.

According to Manish, Lhouvum is not new to Indonesia or the region. She was joint secretary (Southeast Asia and ASEAN) from April 2002 to February 2005 and among key players in promoting and implementing India'€™s Look East Policy. She was also involved in organizing the famous Indo-ASEAN Car Rally in 2004.

During her 36-year distinguished diplomatic career, Lhouvum worked in Mexico City, Dhaka, Havana and New York in various capacities at Indian diplomatic missions. In 2005, she was appointed Indian ambassador to Lebanon. Prior to coming to Jakarta she was dean of the Indian Foreign Service Institute in New Delhi.
