egarding the recent article 'Inpex asks for quick decision' (Feb. 3), there are three key elements missing from your story. Firstly, it is not mentioned that the construction of an offshore LNG scheme would involve up to four fabrication yards for a six-year period.
This would be one of the world's largest construction projects creating huge employment and would additionally position Indonesia very well to compete in the global market for the future construction of similar facilities, exactly in line with President Jokowi's maritime vision for the nation.
Second, it is not made clear in your article that an onshore LNG scheme is simply not viable for investors. If the President does not support an offshore scheme, there will not be an onshore option ' there will be nothing.
And finally, the point is not made strongly enough that the selection of the offshore scheme was made after three years of comprehensive study, supported by regulator SKKMigas and now validated by an independent third party.
There has never been any proper technical analysis made available by those pushing for an onshore plant. On what basis would the President reject the offshore proposal? It would appear as if he is influenced less by proper process and due diligence, and more by which of his ministers shouts the loudest.
