246 residents in Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta, have no place to stay after a fire burned down 38 houses in Green Garden.
The fire reportedly broke out at 9:15 a.m. in an empty house belonging to a resident identified as Jahari.
West Jakarta firefighters eventually extinguished the flames about three hours after deploying 20 fire engines.
'I saw the fire spread out from Jahari's house, which was empty at the time,' said witness Purwati.
Kebon Jeruk Police chief Comr. Eka Baasith said the fire had been caused by a short circuit.
There are no reports about anybody being injured in the incident.
