he US Agency for International Development (USAID) PRESTASI scholarship program is open for applications from Indonesian public servants and other accomplished professionals interested in attaining postgraduate degrees in the US or Indonesia.
USAID says scholarship opportunities are available for Indonesians interested in pursuing degrees in the fields of public policy, economics, political science, public administration, environment, health and education.
“The US is proud to support scholarship opportunities for bright Indonesian professionals who have a desire to combat extreme poverty and support Indonesia’s development,” said USAID Mission director Andrew Sisson on Tuesday.
“After completion of their postgraduate degrees, these professionals and public servants will return to Indonesia and expand knowledge and technical expertise in important sectors. We hope they apply their new skills in helping lift poor and vulnerable Indonesians out of poverty and in advancing the nation to be a more resilient, prosperous, democratic society,” he went on.
The Finance Ministry’s fiscal policy office secretary Irfa Ampri said the USAID PRESTASI scholarship program had helped the development of the office’s staff members.
“We find the alumni are able to contribute positively to our bureaucratic reform process in the Finance Ministry,” said Ampri.
In 2014, USAID PRESTASI scholarship recipients were selected from nearly 700 applicants from across Indonesia for their high academic performance, professional experience and dedication to improving the lives of others. Since 1950, USAID and its predecessor agencies have provided scholarships to study in US universities for more than 3,500 Indonesians, and non-degree training to tens of thousands more. PRESTASI is one of the many education programs supported by USAID in Indonesia.
Application deadline is May 15. For more information on PRESTASI and how to apply, visit prestasi-iief.org/index.php/id/. (ebf)
