'Swedish multinational fashion retailer H&M opens its first store in Bali'
On a bright sunny Saturday last week, a perfect time to go shopping, some 500 or more people lined up for several hours in front of H&M's flagship store at Mal Bali Galeria, waiting for the Swedish fashion retailer to throw open its doors.
At 10 a.m. sharp, the Balinese traditional welcome dance Panyembrama marked the start of the opening ceremony.
Followed by the popular kecak dance, a man dressed as Hanuman from the epic Ramayana handed over scissors to the guests of honor to cut the ribbon, symbolizing that the store was open to the public.
Anil Malhotra, country manager of PT Hindo ' the franchised operator of H&M Indonesia, and store manager Jenefer Lizaba, along with their guests of honor, welcomed the excited crowd of shoppers into H&M's first store in Bali.
'This has been a wonderful opening for us. We have received an amazing response from our customers. We look forward to continue bringing them fashion and quality at the best price in a sustainable way,' commented Malhotra.
The global brand, which is known for its edgy fashion and good value, has been keen to open in Bali, seeing the island's potential not only as one of the best tourist destinations in the world but also to further offer inspiring fashion at unbeatable value for money.
'We are hopeful that local residents and visiting tourists will enjoy our diverse offerings and find fashion inspiration in the store,' Malhotra said.
The first customer in line was lucky enough to be awarded a discount voucher of 100 percent off a maximum purchase of Rp 1 million (US$75.29). The next 499 customers in line also received discount vouchers.
Similar to all its other stores worldwide, H&M at Mal Bali Galeria features stylish fashion for the entire family, with must-haves for women, men, teens and children, as well as functional sportswear in H&M Sports.
'We always put the same collections in every H&M store worldwide, albeit with different quantities for some items,' said Karina Soegarda from PT Hindo's PR communication and press department.
The collections include everything for every occasion, ranging from dazzling party collections to quintessential basics for daily wear. Shoes, bags and jewelry are also stocked.
'The width and variety of the collections means that customers can always find something to suit their style and wardrobe,' Karina noted.
Looking good should do good too. In line with H&M's values on sustainability, the brand brings fashion choices that are good for people and the planet.
The people behind this major brand have set themselves the challenge of ultimately 'making fashion sustainable and sustainability fashionable' toward a better fashion future ' one where customers don't have to make a choice between something that looks good or something that does good.
Helping people express their personality and making them feel good in what they wear, the brand's collection uses natural resources responsibly, notably by using organic, environmentally friendly cottons.
From improving the lives of thousands of cotton farmers, to helping customers to care for their clothes, sustainability is a natural part of the business and a prerequisite for the company's future growth, using its impact worldwide to influence and create change in the entire fashion industry through its conscious actions.
H&M is among the most sustainable companies according to the Global 100 index. The brand is on the list of Global 100's Most Sustainable Corporations in the world for the sixth consecutive year, ranking 20 overall. The 100 companies are scored on indicators ranging from energy and water use, to transparency, waste productivity and sustainability leadership.
Products that are created in a sustainable way also come with quality and best value for money, in accordance with the brands business concept of 'fashion and quality at the best price in a sustainable way'.
H&M does not own factories, buying its products from independent suppliers that are the company's close long-term partners.
The company works to bring about long-term improvement for the people and the environment ' through its supply chain, garment lifecycle and in the communities where the company is active.
