President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo cancelled a meeting with famous English singer Sting at the Presidential Palace on Saturday. The singer was in town to perform at the 2016 Java Jazz International Festival on Saturday evening.

The meeting, originally scheduled for 2 p.m, was cancelled according to a press statement from Presidential Office press chief Bey Machmuddin.

"The President's meeting with singer Sting at 2 p.m could not take place," Bey said in a statement.

No further details were given on the cancellation but the President's press bureau apologized for the change of agenda.

Moroever, through Bey, Jokowi expressed his support for Sting's performance at the 2016 Java Jazz International Festival.

"The President hopes Sting's presence entertains the public, especially Sting fans from across the country," he said.

Sting, born Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner, is one the highlights of this year's Java Jazz International Festival, being held from March 4 to 6 in JIExpo Kemayoran in Central Jakarta.

The festival's official website javajazzfestival.com lists Sting as scheduled to perform on Saturday night at 11 p.m to 1 a.m. He will also collaborate with US trumpeter Chris Botti on stage.

Besides Sting, other big international names set to perform at Java Jazz include David Foster and Robin Thicke.
