T

he Jakarta city administration on Wednesday won four out of the seven best governance awards from the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas), the capital's best achievement ever.

The three other awards went to the provincial administrations of Gorontalo, West Nusa Tenggara and Lampung.

The agency awards the Jakarta city administration for best development planning, most innovative development planning, highest achievement of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), and the MDGs best achievement indicators from 2013 to 2015.

Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama received the four trophies during the annual "Anugerah Pangripta Nusantara" awards at the Presidential Palace.

The governor said he believed that the implementation of the electronic budgeting (e-budgeting) and electronic system for Regional Development Planning Forums (e-musrenbang) had made the city overtake other provinces.

The improvement of education, health, provision of clean water and an increase in people’s purchasing power were some of the criteria that jury members had considered, he added.

However, Ahok stressed that receiving such awards was not his aim as governor. “I don’t focus on winning awards like these because many other provinces can do better than Jakarta. We’ll only focus on achieving our target,” Ahok said at City Hall.

The administration will focus on combating poverty, enhancing education and health respectively through the Jakarta Smart Card (KJP) and Jakarta Health Card (KJS) program, improving people’s welfare through boosting the business sector and improving public transportation services.

He praised all of the city’s civil servants who had performed their jobs well. (bbn)
