span style="line-height: 1.6em;">Indonesia's fourth best women's singles player Fitriani looks forward to taking on one of the world's top badminton players as she proceeds to the second round of the BCA Indonesian Open Super Series Premier 2016 tournament.
Fitriani defeated fellow Indonesian Gregoria Marsika by 21-14, 13-21 and 21-16 at the Istora stadium of the Bung Karno sports complex in Central Jakarta on Tuesday.
Fitriani admitted to losing concentration in the middle of the match, delaying her victory.
“In the second game I lost my concentration and did not aim well,” said the 19 year-old in a press conference after the match.
Fitriani then improved her performance in the third game to defeat Gregoria, making her the only Indonesian women singles player so far to reach the second round.
The Garut, West Java, native was accustomed to Gregoria’s playing style, as the two train together in the national training camp.
In the second round, Fitriani will either meet the former top women's singles player and Olympic medalist Saina Nehwal from India or Taiwan's Pai Yu Po.
Nehwal would not be a new opponent for Fitriani, as the two met at the 2016 Asian Badminton Championship in China in April, when Nehwal claimed victory with a score of 21-16 and 21-17.
However, she brushed off her loss against Nehwal and said she was ready to take her on in the next round.
For the second round match, Fitriani aims to improve her speed on the court and keep her patience. “It does not matter whether I face the world's top player. I just need to bring out my best performance," she added. (rin)
