egardless of failing to win titles at the BCA Indonesia Open badminton championship, the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) is optimistic that the sport will return to its glory days as young players have showed good potential, including Anthony Sinisuka Ginting,19, Jonatan Christie,18, and Ihsan Maulana Mustofa,20.,

“Although we failed to achieve our goal, I’m so proud of the young players’ performance. A valuable experience for the Indonesian team,” PBSI manager team Ricky Subagja said at a press conference on Saturday.

Besides the men’s singles shuttlers, Ricky also praised women’s doubles pairs Anggia Shitta Awanda and Ni Ketut Mahadewi Istirani and Rizki Amelia Pradipta and Tiara Rosalia Nuraidah, as both teams neared the semifinals.

Meanwhile, PBSI’s development manager, Rexy Mainaky, expressed his satisfaction.

“The second-layered shuttlers showed that they were ready to play. Next year, we won’t expect any surprises, we want them to come out on top at the tournament,” Rexy said.

Trio Anthony, Jonatan and Ihsan have shown that they can take on the world’s best players. The country has a brighter future with those players, Rexy said.

Ricky also said that the association would urge the young players to improve so that they are ready for the 2020 Olympics.

“Preparations shall start now,” Ricky said. (bbn)
