P

resident Joko "Jokowi" Widodo will scrap 3,000 problematic bylaws issued by regional governments across the country in upcoming weeks to try to boost investments in infrastructure projects.

He said the bylaws that would be scrapped are those that contradict central government regulations.

During a signing ceremony of six national strategic projects in Jakarta on Thursday, Jokowi said the contradictory bylaws and central government regulations have caused delays in many infrastructure projects across the archipelago.

A series of deregulation packages, he said, have not managed to solve the problem. "Soon, within weeks, I want to eliminate 3,000 regional government regulations," Jokowi said.

He said this decision aimed to facilitate the private sector and the government in speeding up the investment licensing process to complete the national development projects.

A number of bylaws are deemed problematic for businesses, including one requiring a certain percentage of profits for corporate social responsibility (CSR), others involving local taxes and mandatory requirements for companies to hire local workers. (bbn)
