he Transportation Ministry will develop the Manggarai railway station in South Jakarta into a two-story building, in an effort to improve services for train passengers, an official said on Saturday.
The ministry’s director general of railways Prasetyo Buditjahjono said the first stage of the development would be the relocation of train parking areas from Manggarai Station to Tanah Abang and Senen stations, both in Central Jakarta.
“Currently, there are five parking tracks at Manggarai Station. By the end of this month, they will have been removed and then we will start construction of a two-story [station],” Prasetyo said as quoted by tribunnews.com.
He said the construction of the two-story station was part of the double-double tracks (DDT) development between Manggarai and Cikarang, West Java, which was expected to be completed in 2019.
“The two–story station will open in 2019 along with the DDT. There will be 12 tracks on the second story and eight tracks underneath,” he added.
