olice are questioning 31 foreigners arrested during a joint operation involving the immigration office and police in Vila Duta, Bogor, West Java, on Monday afternoon.
If they are proven to have misused their visas, they could each face five years in prison or a fine of Rp 500 million (US$ 37,670).
“The arrested foreigners were unable to show their immigration documents,” Immigration office spokesman Heru Santoso Ananta Yudha said in a press conference on Tuesday.
He suspected the foreigners were Chinese nationals.
The operation was conducted after receiving reports from residents of suspicious activity, said Heru.
He hoped more residents would report suspicious foreigners to the immigration office.
Police confiscated 25 phones, four walkie-talkies, a printer, laptop and modems during the operation. Police suspect the arrestees were involved in cybercrime activity. (bbn)
