AKARTA: State-owned energy company Pertamina has predicted that fuel consumption will increase by 50 percent four days ahead of Idul Fitri when millions of people travel to their hometowns to celebrate the Islamic holiday.
Pertamina marketing director Ahmad Bambang estimates Premium gasoline consumption will rise about 15 percent from average normal consumption of 71,906 kiloliters (KL) to 82,496 KL per day.
“Peak consumption is expected to occur four days before Idul Fitri with a 50 percent increase to 107,859 KL per day,” Ahmad said in a statement on Friday. Idul Fitri is predicted to fall on July 6.
Meanwhile, subsidized diesel consumption is expected to fall 12 percent from normal consumption of 35,173 KL to 31,118 KL per day due to the restriction policy for diesel fueled vehicles during the exodus season.
Peak consumption will occur two days before Idul Fitri when consumption is projected to increase by 13 percent to 23,500 MT. — JP
