olice have arrested five men for spreading hatred by insulting police through their Facebook accounts following a clash between supporters of Jakarta’s Persija soccer club, known as Jakmania, and police officers.
Comr. Nico Setiawan, Jakarta Police’s cybercrime unit III head, said on Monday that the five Persija supporters were arrested after officers discovered offensive Facebook posts directed at the police.
“We arrested them on Sunday,” Nico said as quoted by tribunnews.com.
One of the supporters, Ahmad Fauzi, said in his Facebook account that many female supporters of the club had been injured by police using tear gas during the clash, which took place on Friday.
“F*** the police, you left many Jak Angels [women supporters] unconscious by your tear gas. F*** you murderers,” the account said.
The clash took place during a match between Persija and Sriwijaya FC of Palembang, which was halted in the 81st minute as incensed fans attacked a fence separating them from the field after Palembang scored a goal.
