Island focus: Police detain two land arsonists

ebo Police officers in Jambi arrested two alleged arsonists in Kuamang village, VII Koto district, Tebo regency, on Monday. The suspects have been identified as Beni Raharja, 35, and Sutimin, 56.

Tebo Police deputy chief Comr. Ali Sadikin said police had also secured evidence in the form of matches and twigs allegedly used to start the fire.

“An area amounting to 1.5 hectares has been razed,” Ali said on Monday.

The arrests were made when a team from the Tebo Police saw the blaze while carrying out a patrol in the village.

“We have detained them for further investigation,” he added.

Separately, Jambi Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) head Nurangesti said they detected four hot spots from satellite images on Monday.

They are located in Mekarjaya village, Bajubang district in Batanghari regency, Talang Serdan village, Mandiangin district, Sarolangun regency, Talang Babat village, Sabak Barat district in West Tanjungjabung regency and Pemayongan village, Sumay district, Tebo regency.
