eputy Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat and the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) Jakarta branch chairman Boy Sadikin are among six names that have made the PDI-P’s shortlist of candidates for next year’s gubernatorial election.

Djarot said Friday that the PDI-P had shortlisted other party members and non-party affiliated individuals. However, he refused to reveal the names of the four other candidates.

“PDI-P cadres make two out of the six names as the party has placed my name and Boy Sadikin on the list,” Djarot said as quoted by kompas.com.

He, however, emphasized that the party’s chairwoman, Megawati Soekarnoputri, had the final say on deciding who would secure the party’s ticket to run as a gubernatorial candidate.

Previously a survey released by Saiful Muljani Research and Consulting (SMRC) found that Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama remained the strongest candidate for the 2017 Jakarta Gubernatorial Election.

The semi-open poll, which was conducted from June 24 to 29, saw 646 Jakartans provide their pick for governor in one-on-one interviews. Ahok’s name came out on top with 81 percent of votes, much higher than former justice and human rights minister Yusril Ihza Mahendra with 10.4 percent and Surabaya mayor Tri Rismaharini with 5.7 percent.
