he chairman of the Cilacap branch of Muslim organization Nahdlatul Ulama, Maslahudin, has called on the Attorney General’s Office (AGO) to avoid repeatedly postponing the execution of drug convicts in order to maintain the mental health of local people.
“As Cilacap residents, we reject the postponement of the executions. It was reported in the media that the executions would be carried out soon. In fact, they were delayed. This has affected the psychology of Cilacap residents,” Maslahudin said.
The AGO’s statement that the executions would be carried out soon drove local people to Wijaya Pura Port, the access point to Nusakambangan prison island, to seek clarification the situation.
Locals are worried that people visiting terror convicts could carry out acts that may endanger others. “Local residents are worried about the terrorists’ visitors committing harmful acts,” Maslahudin added.
