io 2016 Olympic gold medallist Liliyana Natsir arrived in Manado, North Sulawesi, on Monday on board a Batik Air flight at about 2 p.m. local time at Sam Ratulangi International Airport.
Her father Benno Natsir, who arrived earlier, said Liliyana would join a series of activities in the city.
“It’s been years since Butet has visited her home village in Manado,” Benno said moments before her landing at the airport, referring to his daughter by her affectionate nickname.
He said Butet would stay at the Swissbel Maleosan Hotel, Manado, for two nights and only drop by her parents’ house in Teling.
It was also at the hotel that a thanksgiving party would be held a day after the program with North Sulawesi Governor Olly Dondokambey.
She is scheduled to return to Jakarta on Wednesday because she is set to join the final audition for the Djarum’s 2016 Badminton Scholarship to be held on Friday in Kudus regency, Central Java.
“I am proud of Liliyana, especially because she has presented a gold medal for the 71st anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia,” Benno said.
