ome Minister Tjahjo Kumolo has admitted to an oversight regarding his subordinate following the arrest of Banyuasin Regent Yan Anton Ferdian by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in relation to a corruption case.

"I was shocked, concerned and felt guilty. It is shameful that we can still see a regional leader being caught red-handed by the KPK in such a bribery case," Tjahjo said as quoted by Antara news agency on Monday morning.

Tjahjo called on all regional leaders to remain prudent in running their administrations and to handle projects that are prone to corruption and bribery with extra caution.

"They [the regional leaders] should understand areas prone to corruption practices. This principle applies to myself as well," he asserted, adding that the ministry was awaiting an official warrant from the KPK on the arrest before suspending Yan Anton from his position.

Yan Anton was arrested at his house on Sunday afternoon. He was allegedly involved in attempted bribery over the regency's education agency budget allocations. (dmr)
