ife insurance industry income in the first half of 2016 increased 42.8 percent to Rp 99.88 trillion (US $7.7 billion) compared to Rp 69.97 trillion in the same period in 2015, an insurance business practitioner said.

Indonesia Life Insurance Association Chairman Hendrisman Rahim said on Monday that the investment income, which rose 3,171 percent -- or 30 times -- year-on-year had contributed to the high growth to Rp 21.92 trillion this year compared to the previous investment loss of Rp 710 billion in 2015.

"The investment loss was driven by the negative yield in the stock market. But at the beginning of 2016 we already saw a recovery," Hendrisman said in a press conference on the performance of the life insurance industry.

He added that premium income had generated majority income of Rp 77.96 trillion of the total revenue. The individual policyholders increased by 15.1 percent from 16.6 million holders in 2015 to 19.11 million holders, he said. (dan)
