T

he Jakarta Sanitation Agency will reorganize the disposal time of trucks taking garbage from Jakarta to the Bantargebang garbage treatment facility in Bekasi, West Java, to avoid the chaos generated by long queues of trucks on the roads heading to the facility.

Jakarta Sanitation Agency deputy head Ali Maulana Hakim said on Tuesday that long queues occurred on Sunday because the trucks traveled to Bantargebang altogether at the same time.

"We will regulate the disposal time of the trucks so they won't dump the garbage at the same time," Ali told The Jakarta Post on Tuesday, adding that within 24 hours, the disposal time would be split evenly.

Dozens of garbage truck drivers complained that they had to queue for 12 hours so that they could dump the solid waste into the treatment facility on Sunday.

Ali explained further that the conditions on Sunday had deteriorated because of the work that was being done in the dumping zone to prevent landslides. The trucks were directed to a different disposal zone. As the trucks arrived together at the disposal zone, the long queues piled up.

However, Ali said the work had finished on Monday and trucks could dump their garbage normally now. (bbn)
