ational Narcotics Agency (BNN) officers have shot dead one of three suspected members of a drug gang allegedly trying to smuggle 100 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine from Aceh Tamiang, Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam, to Medan, North Sumatra.
BNN personnel said they were forced to shoot dead the alleged trafficker, identified only as JUM, as he had attempted to escape during a raid in front of the Imperium residential complex on Jl. TB Simatupang, Medan, North Sumatra, late on Tuesday. The suspect’s body is now at the Bhayangkara Police Hospital in Medan.
BNN psychotropic unit director Brig. Gen. Anjan Pramuka has confirmed the incident. “We arrested the two other syndicate members,” he told journalists at the location of the raid.
Anjan refused to provide more details on the drug operation, saying only that the BNN would issue a press statement on the arrest on Wednesday.
Sources that asked to remain anonymous said the operation, led by Brig. Gen. Eko Daniaanto and Comr. Satria, two investigators from the BNN headquarters in Jakarta, began when the agency’s officers were suspicious to see a car moving at high speed from Aceh Tamiang to Sunggal, Medan.
The officers chased the car and stopped it across from the Bina Kasih Hospital on Jl. TB Simatupang. One of three passengers in the car, JUM attempted to resist the arrest, prompting the officers to shoot the Aceh Tamiang resident, who died on the spot.
The BNN officers then arrested the two other suspected drug traffickers, identified as Abdul Manan, 51, and Irwan, 33, both Aceh Tamiang residents. (ebf)
