eli Serdang Police have reported that one person died Monday while dozens of others were hospitalized after getting food poisoning from leftovers of a party on Saturday at a house in Sumber Rejo, Deli Serdang regency, North Sumatra.

The fatality was identified as Misriani, 40, a Sumber Rejo resident. Misriani died after being treated at the Grand Medistra Hospital in Lubuk Pakam for several hours.

Deli Serdang Police chief Robert Da Costa said Misriani had likely died because of food poisoning. After the party was over, some guests took home some leftover food.

“The following day, the guests who ate the food at their respective homes got diarrhea. They didn’t go to the health center but took over-the-counter medicine,” Robert said.

On Monday, those whose diarrhea had worsened were sent to hospitals. Besides Misriani, 36 other residents have been treated at various hospitals.
