nvesting excess funds is now one click away thanks to a partnership between French securities firm PT BNP Paribas Investment Partners and telecommunications operator Indosat Ooredoo, making investing accessible to the populace previously unable to use banks.
The program, called #AkuBisaInvestasi (I can invest), sets no minimum amount of funds as a requirement to invest. Investors are only required to register via Indosat’s e-wallet program called Dompetku (my wallet) and submit their identity card numbers to the mobile application.
The program, slated to officially launch at the end of this month, is targeting first-time investors from lower socioeconomic populations.
“We will invest bank deposit funds because that has the lowest risk among other investment products,” BNP Paribas president director Vivian Secakusuma said on Tuesday.
She said that the firm, which currently manages Rp 32 trillion (US$2.46 billion) assets, expected to make services available to new populations, which is in line with the government’s mission to provide financial inclusion for all citizens and to widen the investor base in the country. — JP
