ollowing the discovery of fake ID cards (KTP) being used by Philippine sailors in Bitung, North Sulawesi, immigration officers in the province have stepped up measures against undocumented foreigners.

On Tuesday officers visited two companies, PT Multi Nabati Sulawesi and PT RD Pacific International. The two companies were chosen because they employed many foreigners.

“We are targeting other companies too,” Jeacky Gerungan, the head of monitoring and enforcement at the immigration office said.

Jeacky said the main target of the raid was to check the documents and to take relevant measures if they found anything suspicious. “We are also checking the ID cards of Indonesian workers,” said. He said they found no violations on the first day of the operation.

On Oct. 21 North Sulawesi Police arrested two Indonesians who were suspected of counterfeiting ID cards for 11 Filipinos. (evi)
