ndonesia’s annual inflation increased by 3.58 percent year-on-year (yoy) in November, compared to 3.31 percent yoy in October as a result of a surge in raw food prices.

Central Statistics Agency (BPS) deputy head of distribution and statistics Sasmito Hadi Wibowo said on Thursday that the prolonged rainy season had seriously affected harvests.

The decline in the supply had caused prices of several commodities, such as chilies, to soar. The rice price, however, was relatively stable because of sufficient supply of the country’s main staple food following a successful harvest in September.

“The prices of red and green chilies increased by 21 and 29 percent respectively compared to October following the prolonged wet season,” Sasmito said in a press briefing. (hwa)
