A

t least four people have reportedly died in an earthquake measuring 6.5 on the Richter scale that hit Pidie Jaya regency in Aceh on Wednesday morning.

 

Tribunnews.com, quoting Pidie Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) official Apriadi, reported that an 80-year-old resident from Beuracan subdistrict, Meurudu district, identified as A Gani, had died after the earthquake. 

 

Apriadi, however, could not immediately explain whether the man had died from shock or from injury.

 

A family of three reportedly suffered fatal injuries after their shop house at the Meureudu market collapsed onto them due to the quake.

Pidie Jaya regency is located 150 kilometers northeast of the provincial capital of Banda Aceh, with Pidie regency bordering its western side. (hwa)
