ozens of residents of Pidie regency, Aceh, were rushed to the hospital early on Wednesday after an earthquake measuring 6.5 on the Richter scale hit the province's northeastern areas. 

Tgk Chik Di Tiro Sigli General Hospital director Mohd. Ridha Faisal said dozens of people had received emergency treatment at the hospital for injuries caused by the earthquake, which occurred shortly after ‪5 a.m.‬

"We will provide treatment for the victims of the Pidie Jaya earthquake," he said, as quoted by tribunnews.com.

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has reported that the center of the quake was 18 kilometers northeast of the Pidie Jaya regency at a depth of 10 kilometers. (hwa)

 

UPDATE: The earlier version of this article stated that the earthquake in Aceh on Dec. 7 was measured at 6.4 on the Richter scale according to the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG). BMKG later revised the figure to 6.5 on the Richter scale.
