Former Indonesian badminton association chairman Soerjadi passes away

Former chair of the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI), Lt. Gen. (Ret) Soerjadi passed away on Wednesday at the age of 74 at his residence on Jl. Al Ikhlas in Bambu Apus, Cipayung, East Jakarta.

ormer chair of the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) Lt. Gen. (Ret) Soerjadi passed away on Wednesday at the age of 74 at his residence on Jl. Al Ikhlas in Bambu Apus, Cipayung, East Jakarta. 

According to his son-in-law Rahmat Wibowo, Soerjadi died of heart problems. Soerjadi underwent surgery to install rings in his heart last month at Abdi Waluyo Hospital in Pasar Rebo, East Jakarta. 

Under his leadership from 1993 to 1997, Indonesian shuttlers managed to claim the prestigious Thomas Cup for the men's team and women's team snatched the Uber Cup two times in Jakarta in 1994 and Hong Kong in 1996. 

He is survived by his wife, Endang Waluyati Soerjadi, three children and seven grandchildren. 

Soerjadi, who was also vice president commissioner of PT Apac Inti Corpora and PT Asia Pacific Investama, will be buried at Kalibata Heroes Cemetery in South Jakarta on Thursday morning. (dmr)
