T

he Indonesian Soccer Association (PSSI) has announced that a portion of the takings from ticket sales of the AFF Cup grand final match against Thailand would be donated to the victims of an earthquake that struck Aceh’s Pidie Jaya regency on Wednesday.

PSSI’s newly elected chairman Edy Rahmayadi, who took the helm last month, announced via his Twitter handle @RahmayadiEdy, that Rp 50,000 (US$3.76) would be donated from each ticket sold.

“In an attempt to ease the burden of our brothers and sisters currently facing disaster, the PSSI will donate Rp 50,000 from every AFF cup final ticket to the victims of earthquake in Pidie, Aceh,” Edy, who is also a commander of the Army Strategic Reserves Command (Kostrad), tweeted on Friday.

Indonesia, which is seen by many pundits as an underdog in the biennial competition among Southeast Asian nations, will host the first leg of the finals against favorite Thailand on Wednesday next week at Pekansari Stadium in Bogor, West Java. The seats are divided into three categories wish each category costing Rp 100,000, Rp 300,000 and Rp 500,000, respectively.

“The technical aspects of purchasing the tickets is still being arranged and will be announced soon,” Edy added.

The National Disaster Mitigation Agency has reported that more than 100 people have been killed in the disaster and about 700 others injured, while more than 11,000 people are now staying in 28 temporary shelters and mosques. (fac/evi)
