T

he Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) grilled on Thursday dangdut singer Saipul Jamil for the first time as a suspect in a case of alleged bribery.

“The suspect was questioned in relation to a bribery case involving state officials at the North Jakarta District Court,” KPK spokesman Febri Diansyah said as reported by tribunnews.com.

Febri said Saipul, through his brother Samsul Hidayatullah and his lawyer Berthanatalia, had allegedly bribed the court’s secretary Rohadi with Rp 250 million (US$19,230).

The KPK arrested Samsul, Bernathalia and Rohadi in a sting operation in June. The Jakarta Corruption Court has sentenced Samsul and Bernathalia two years in jail each and Rohadi to seven years in prison.

Saipul, who was sentenced by the North Jakarta District Court to three years in prison for sexually abusing a boy in June this year, refused to comment about the interrogation.

“If you want to ask for information, ask my lawyer,” Saipul said after the questioning at the KPK building in South Jakarta.

The Jakarta High Court recently sentenced Saipul to five years in prison for the sexual abuse. (jun)
