slam Defenders Front (FPI) leader Rizieq Shihab, who has been named a suspect for allegedly insulting the country’s state ideology, Pancasila, will file a pretrial motion to challenge the move, a lawyer has said.
“[We] will file a pretrial motion [to find out] whether the required criteria have been met for naming [Rizieq] a suspect,” Rizieq’s lawyer Kapitra Ampera said on Monday evening, soon after learning that his client had been named a suspect by West Java Police.
He added that the pretrial request would be submitted after he received an investigation letter from the police, kompas.com reported.
Following a third case screening, police on Monday raised the status of Rizieq from that of a reported person to that of a suspect, West Java Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Yusri Yunus declared at West Java Police headquarters in Bandung.
Sukmawati Soekarnoputri, a daughter of Indonesia’s first president, Sukarno, had reported Rizieq to police for defamation in relation to a sermon the Muslim cleric had made in the province. (fac)
