KPU Jepara chairman M.Haidar Fitri said election materials arrived in Karimunjawa, the biggest island in the chain, on Feb. 1, but rough seas had hampered their distribution to other islands.
“The port master has not permitted inter-island sea trips using small boats. We are still waiting for the permit. Three islands we need to reach are Genting, Nyamuk and Parang,” said Haidar.
Karimunjawa Islands, one of districts in Jepara, has 27 islands. Five islands, namely Genting, Karimunjawa, Kemujan, Nyamuk and Parang, are inhabited. The district has 6,704 voters. Apart from Karimunjawa, Kemujan has also received election materials, the KPU said.
Two candidate pairs will compete in the regental election. The first pair, Subroto (incumbent deputy regent) and Nur Yahman, is backed by a coalition of nine parties. They are the NasDem Party, the United Development Party (PPP), the Gerindra Party, the National Awakening Party (PKB), the Golkar Party, the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), the National Mandate Party (PAN), the Democratic Party and the Hanura Party.
The second ticket, Marzuki (incumbent regent) and Dian Kristiandi (Jepara Legislative Council speaker), is supported by the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) only.
Jepara is one of seven areas holding regional elections in Central Java. The six others are Banjarnegara, Batang, Brebes, Cilacap, Pati and Salatiga. (ebf)
