Four people are suspected of robbing a house in Sungai Pinang village, Sungai Manau district, Merangin Regency, Jambi, on Sunday.

A number of valuable items, including gold and Rp 5.4 million (US$404), were allegedly taken by the alleged perpetrators, who reportedly forced their way into the home with a hammer.

The homeowner, Idris, and his family were in Saudi Arabia on the umrah (minor haj) at the time of the reported incident, while six domestic workers were inside the house when the alleged robbery occurred, said Sungai Manau Police chief First. Insp. Nursan Subagyo.

Some of the workers were allegedly assaulted by the suspects, who also allegedly shot a gun into the air to threaten them, he said.

“We tried to pursue them but it was too late. But we will continue to investigate the case,” Nursan said.

A day before, the passengers of a public minivan were robbed in Mandiangin district, Sarolangun regency, while traveling from Kerinci to the provincial capital of Jambi.

Three people blocked the minivan at around 2 a.m. and then stormed the car to take the belongings of the passengers, said Jambi Police general crimes unit head Sr. Comr. Benedictus Anies Purnawan.

The criminals reportedly threatened the passengers and crew using sharp weapons, he said. (bbs)
