he Jakarta administration will no longer issue permits to establish billboards on government-owned properties, an official has said.
“No one is allowed to install more billboard signs in the city,” Jakarta Financial Management Body (BPAD) head Achmad Firdaus said on Sunday as quoted by tempo.co.
According to him, the policy was in accordance with Gubernatorial Decree no. 244/2015 that regulates billboard installation in the city.
The comments were stated following an accident in Slipi, West Jakarta, on Saturday, where a giant billboard in front of Harapan Kita Hospital fell down and hit a car due to extremely strong winds.
The currently existing billboards would be given concession and would only be taken down once their permit expired, he said.
Firdaus also said that the BPAD, which had only been established on Jan. 3, was tasked with accounting for all billboards located within government properties, in order to regulate them.
Meanwhile, the collapsed billboard in Slipi was licensed until April 2017, according to the head of Jakarta Taxation and Fees Agency Edi Sumantri.
“Based on their tax records, the billboard’s proprietor has fulfilled all the terms and conditions,” Edi said, concluding that they have not violated any regulations. (dea)
