Book worm: Lala Karmela: Reading for me time

Kapanlagi.com

Lala Karmela will soon get back to her music activities after the release of her third movie Buka’an 8, a romantic comedy with a title that refers to the degree of cervical dilation in which she plays a heavily pregnant woman.

In March, the actress and singer also plans to release a single after launching her first studio album Solina last year.

Born in Jakarta as Karmela Mudayatri Herradura Kartodirdjo to a Javanese father and Filipino mother, the 31-year-old, who joined pop band Inersia before pursuing a solo career both in the Philippines and Indonesia, prefers reading book as her “me time” activity.

“People may choose to go to the salon or other self-care things, but reading a book is my kind of me time because not only does a book feed your soul, it also feeds your mind.

However, her daily activities prevent her from allotting more time to read.

“It takes a lot of effort to finish a book now. I can easily get distracted. But weirdly I can finish reading a book when the story correlates to something that I’ve been through,” she said.

Describing herself as “anachronistic,” as she prefers reading actual books over digital versions, Lala said that in the past she used to buy a lot of books at one time but didn’t end up reading all of them.

“Books are pricey, too. So for me, it’s one book at a time. I just pick one that catches my eye.”

Eleven Minutes

by Paulo Coelho

It’s about being a woman and being honest about ourselves, seeing a person tackle all of her difficulties. I relate so much. You know when you’re in your mid-20s, seeking that love. You’re far from home and there are no parents around to talk you out. I love this book.

The Noticer

by Andy Andrews

The characters and the problems they have in this novel, The Noticer: Sometimes, All a Person Needs Is a Little Perspective, are kind of related to me. When I was reading it, I had just fallen out with my friend. We’re okay now. But because of the book I had my mind opened and I could see the friendship that I have with that person. It’s lovely how a book can touch you in that way.

40 Days of Purpose

by Rick Warrens

I’m a Muslim, but I read this Christian devotional book. After reading it, I became more open with life and about my relationship with my Creator.

The Alchemist

by Paulo Coelho

It hit me hard. After reading this novel I looked for every book he’s written.
