coalition of fishermen and environmental activists plans to cooperate with the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and the Judicial Commission (KY) to monitor future legal processes related to the disputed permits of the Jakarta Bay reclamation project.

The Jakarta State Administrative Court ruled in favor of the coalition on Thursday, obligating the Jakarta administration to revoke the disputed permits and prohibiting any parties from starting construction on islets F, I and K. The three islets are among the 17 man-made islets of the controversial project.

However, the city administration plans to appeal the court ruling. The coalition’s lawyer said they would openly ask the KPK and KY to supervise the appeal process at the State Administrative High Court (PTTUN).

“We would like the court to appoint judges with qualifications in environmental law for the appeals process,” coalition lawyer Tigor Hutapea said during a press conference on Tuesday.

He added that the coalition would ask the KPK to monitor the case for any indications of corruption during the appeal process.

Separately, city administration lawyer Haratua Purba said his side had yet to file an appeal to the high court as they had not received a copy of the court’s ruling. Haratua said the deadline for filing an appeal was on March 30. (kkk/hnj)
