egional governments must immediately draft their regional energy plans (RUED) as a follow up to a similar document at the national level – the national energy plan (RUEN) – that has already been signed by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.

The RUEN not only involves the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry but it also involves seven other ministers, said National Energy Council (DEN) member Tumiran said in Jakarta on Thursday.

“Each ministry has a task stipulated in the RUEN for the next 50 years,” he said during a press conference at the ministerial headquarters in Central Jakarta.

The RUEN will be issued soon under Presidential Regulation No. 22/17. One of the most ambitious targets the government has set in the RUEN is to supply 23 percent of the national energy mix from renewable sources by 2025.

He said the regional energy plans could not contravene the national energy plan, therefore, discussion on RUED drafting had to involve relevant institutions in their regions as well as other stakeholders in the sector such as producers and industries.

“Furthermore, the provinces must immediately compose their RUED in line with the RUEN. Even though some of them have already drafted the documents, they should be synchronized with the national plan,” he added. (bbn)
