teenage suspect, identified only as SHDW, 16, faced her first day in court at the South Jakarta District Court on Thursday for her alleged role as an administrator of a Facebook group called Official Candy’s Group that promoted child pornography.
SHDW’s lawyer, Djarot Widodo, said the agenda of the trial was simply to meet the demands of prosecutors and question witnesses that were also suspects in the case.
“We have not filed a pretrial motion so that the trial can proceed with witness questioning,” Djarot said at the South Jakarta District Court on Thursday as quoted by kompas.com.
He said filing filed a pretrial motion would have just prolonged the trial and give more time for the prosecutors drum up more accusations.
Separately, lawyer Novia Hendrawati said she hoped her client would not be sentenced to prison because she had been forced to be involved in the group by a man named Wawan, 27, another suspect in the case.
“Hopefully, prosecutors won’t demand her imprisonment. I’ve heard that she will instead be sentenced to community service or have to go to a pesantren [Islamic boarding school],” she said. (fac)
