Bank Ina president director Edy Kuntardjo said Monday that the lender was still waiting for an approval from the Financial Services Authority (OJK) on the upgrade of its status to the BUKU II category, which clusters banks with a core capital of between Rp 1 trillion and Rp 5 trillion. It is currently still listed in the BUKU I category, which groups those with a core capital of below Rp 1 trillion.

The bank raised about Rp 700 billion from the recent issuance of new shares, which accounted for about 29 percent of its enlarged capital. The bank expects to tap into opportunities in digital banking services.

"Branchless banking services are more effective and efficient," Edy said.

Edy further said the bank would open a new branch in Denpasar next month and another one in Makassar in June as addition to its 22 existing branches in Jakarta, Bandung, Solo and Yogyakarta.

With the opening of a branch in Makassar by June, the bank would have a wider network to expand its service, he said, adding that the expansion into branchless banking next year would enable the bank to tap into lending potential in rural areas. (dra/hwa)
