tate-owned lender Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI) reaped Rp 3.23 trillion (US$243.2 million) in net profit during this year's first quarter, an 8.5 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
Its net interest income surged by 12.3 percent year-on-year (yoy) to Rp 7.76 trillion while the non-interest income jumped 14.3 percent to Rp 2.23 trillion.
"We believe that financing infrastructure projects is the best option because it supports the government's efforts to accelerate infrastructure development and is a windfall for BNI's business," BNI president director Achmad Baiquni told a press briefing in Jakarta on Wednesday.
BNI disbursed Rp 396.52 trillion in loans during this year's first three months, up 21.3 percent yoy. It also collected Rp 445.05 trillion of third-party funds during that period, up 19.8 percent yoy. (bbn)
