enen Market traders affected by a fire in January have asked for permission to keep selling their goods in the parking lot of the market, even though property developer PT Pembangunan Jaya has provided temporary kiosks for them.
Adi, 31, who sells used clothes in the parking lot of Senen Market blocks I and II, said he preferred to keep doing business there even though he had been given a kiosk at block V.
He said he had tried moving his business to a temporary kiosk. However, he found no customers there.
“10 days ago I tried selling at the kiosk as many [traders] had moved there. But no one bought [my goods]. So I returned [to the parking lot],” Adi said as quoted by wartakota.tribunnews.com on Thursday.
Besides a lack of customers, he also complained about the size of the kiosk, which he deemed to be too small.
Another trader, Yuda, 42, said he would like to keep selling his goods at the parking lot at least until this year’s Idul Fitri holiday on July 25.
“It’s only two months away so I hope I can keep selling my goods here. But if I can’t, then what can I do?” he said.
More than 1,000 kiosks at blocks I and II were destroyed when a fire erupted at the market and burned for more than 24 hours.
