fire that broke out in a cluster of semi-permanent stalls in a densely populated area in West Cakung sub-district, East Jakarta, on Friday, killed a 17-month-old toddler named Nabila.
East Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency official Gatot said he received the information about the incident at 9.27 a.m.
“We deployed four fire trucks to the site to put out the fire. Some semi-permanent buildings were already gutted by fire,” he said on Friday.
As of 11 a.m. officers from the agency were still ensuring the safety of the site, which contains many inflammable materials such as wood and bamboo, tribunnews.com reported.
“We have yet to identify the source of the fire and calculate the losses,” Gatot said.
