akarta residents who have yet to register for the National Health Insurance (JKN) program can now input their data at one of the 267 sub-district offices spread across the city following an agreement between the city administration and the Social Security Agency (BPJS) on Friday.
“The registration is free of charge. For now, it’s only open for individuals and non-wage recipients,” BPJS Kesehatan membership and marketing director Andayani Budi Lestari said at City Hall, adding it was also open for residents who did not hold Jakarta IDs.
Andayani revealed that around 7.9 million Jakartans, or more than 80 percent of the city’s total population, were already covered by the JKN program. The newly signed agreement was part of the Central Government’s target to achieve universal health coverage by 2019 under the JKN scheme.
Meanwhile, Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama urged civil servants to ensure all their constituents were covered by the program.
“To all mayors and districts heads, since last year Jakarta has been committed to realizing the universal healthcare program. So please bear the responsibility as stipulated under the law,” Ahok said.
