ndonesia’s favorite midfielder, Irfan Bachdim, said he is content to be able to return to the squad, backing up the Garuda team to play against Cambodia in a friendly soccer match on Thursday.
“I’m thrilled to be back on the national team. I’m ready and excited for [Thursday’s] match. We’re in good condition, but Cambodia is a tough team so we have to stay alert,” Irfan, who plays for Bali United in the Indonesia’s Liga 1 top-tier competition, said in a statement.
Meanwhile, head coach Luis Milla said he made room for the country’s young talents to shape their skills in friendly matches ahead of August’s Southeast Asian Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
“[The Cambodian match] will be a great opportunity for me to see the squad’s ability in away games,” said the Spaniard.
“Cambodia is a good team; they’ll be playing in front of a home crowd, which is beneficial for them. Nevertheless, we also have a good, growing team,” added the coach on the match that will be held in the Olympic Stadium in Phnom Penh.
After the Cambodian meet, Indonesia is set to have another friendly against Puerto Rico in Sleman, Yogyakarta, on June 13. It will be the first friendly between Indonesia and Puerto Rico.
Tickets for the Puerto Rican match are available on loket.com, with prices ranging from Rp 30,000 (US$2.25) to Rp 100,000 apiece.
