he Depok administration in West Java has failed to set up low-priced markets at 22 locations in 11 districts of the city during the Ramadhan fasting month.
The head of the trade division of the Depok Trade and Industry Agency, Anim Mulyana, said on Wednesday that the Rp 396 million (US$29,779) program failed because the auction earlier this week for the program was not successful.
“We hope we can undertake the operation next year,” Anim said as quoted by kompas.com.

Initially Depok administration planned to provide 226 staple-food packages in the intended locations. Each package would cost only Rp 35,000 and consist of 1 liter of cooking oil, 1 kilogram of sugar, 1 kg of flour, 1 bottle of syrup and 500 grams of peeled nuts.
Although the operation could not be done this year, Anim said Depok residents could still buy low-priced staple food sold by the West Java administration.
During Ramadhan the West Java province has provided staple-food packages that cost Rp 49,500 and contained 5 kg of rice, 3 kg of sugar and 1 liter of cooking oil. (hol)
