ndonesia’s major cell phone retailer PT Erajaya Swasembada aims to tap into the growing domestic demand for aerial photography by distributing the newest version of drones made by China-based producer DJI.
Erajaya CEO Hasan Aula said Wednesday that his company was trying to popularize drones as a consumer item that could play a complementary role in people's lifestyles.
"To make people familiar with drones, we can do several things, such as giving information about their functions, educating consumers on how to operate them and providing networks of distribution," he said.
Middle-class consumers are Erajaya’s target market, Hasan added.

DJI’s lattest product, Spark, fits into this segment, with a price tag of Rp 7.9 million (US$601), cheaper than the latest smartphones.
DJI communication director Kevin On said his company saw Indonesia, a big country with expanding tourism, as a potential market for its products. The firm chose Erajaya as its distributor because of its vast sales network across the country. (rdi/lnd)
