s singer-turned-actress Julia "Jupe" Perez was battling cervical cancer, her younger sister Nia Anggita recalled Jupe sold her diamond ring to build a mosque.
“At that time, she [Jupe] was in dire need of the money for her own medical treatment,” Nia was quoted by Antara as saying at Jupe’s residence in Cibubur, east of Jakarta.
Nia remembered her sister as a person who always loved to share with the needy. “She always told me not to be selfish and to be of help to others.”
Meanwhile, Jupe’s friend Eko Patrio said she had asked him and her sisters to continue her project to build a shelter for children living with cancer.
“She wants me and her sisters to proceed with the shelter,” said comedian-turned-politician Eko.
The shelter project, which occupies one of Jupe’s houses in Cipayung, East Jakarta, has been bogged down due a lack of funding.
“Jupe also wished to pursue her master degree. She had many dreams to realize,” Eko said.
In Eko’s eyes, Jupe was a person always ready to give a helping hand to others.
Jupe died on Saturday morning at the age of 36. She was born in Jakarta on July 15, 1980. Julia appeared in several comedy shows and movies, including Arwah Goyang Karawang (The Dancing Spirit of Karawang).
